The Bermuda Football Association in conjunction with the Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) is sending sixteen talented U19 players to represent Bermuda in the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) tournament.

“Established in 1974 as a nonprofit organization, the league has grown in size and currently is home to over 800 men’s, women’s and youth teams,” said David Sabir, BFA General Secretary, “In striving to expose our 1992 players to the very best in terms of opportunities, Bermuda is making history in becoming the first international team to take part in the tournament.”

Squad members include Jaylon Bather, Troy Tucker, Tariq Sabir, Tahj Bell, Aaron Nelson, Rakeem Deshields, Cory Richardson, Anthony Hunter, Dante Leverock, Casey Castle, Nelson Smith, Daniel Andrade, Jah-Quille Stowe, Erin Simons, Terryn Fray and Tristan Hall.

They will be accompanied by Head Coach Scott Morton, BSSF Administrator Manny Faria, Assistant Coach Richard North and Senior Education Officer Darrin Lewis.

The team will play a total of three games in the tournament; two games on Friday December 11th against Harpeth FC Hurricanes from Tennessee and Leg-A-Z Gainesville Caimans from Florida, and one on Saturday, December 12th against the Boulder County Force Red from Colorado.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our players as the tournament offers them the platform to showcase their talent. We have worked hard to prepare the team for the tournament and are confident of a great performance.” said Derek Broadley, BFA Technical Director. “A very stringent criteria was used to select the players and it includes a minimum GPA score of 2.0 and they must be playing for their school team. We also looked at their overall deportment in school, on the playing field and attendance at training sessions. Bermuda will be the first international teams to compete in this prestigious tournament”.

Richard Calderon, BFA President added “As part of it Strategic Plan, the BFA is committed to Rebuilding the Competitiveness of Bermuda Football and we will continue to expose our teams to top quality football competition. Our youth players will benefit from the experience and opportunity to join top universities and colleges to further their education. The CASL tournament will be used as recruitment ground for over 400 universities and colleges where talent scouts will attend with the aim to sign up prospective student athletes.”

The team departs on Thursday December 10th to play in the tournament that will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina from December 11th till December 12th.
