Freshman Philip Suprise scored off a Dominic Adams assist in the 82nd minute as the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team defeated Central Connecticut, 1-0, at the Arute Field. With the win, Quinnipiac clinch at least the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Northeast Conference Tournament.
Quinnipiac could finish as high as the No. 2 seed, should St. Francis (N.Y.) lose against Long Island. Quinnipiac could also claim second position with a combination of a St. Francis (N.Y.) tie and a Fairleigh Dickinson win or tie at Sacred Heart.
Senior goalkeeper Freddy Hall shut out Central Connecticut, stopping two shots to earn the victory. He now has nine shutouts this season. Chris Jones and Paul Armstrong split time in net for the Central Connecticut, with each making one save. Armstrong took the loss, allowing Suprise's game winner.
On the game winner, Adams passed across the 18-yard box to find Suprise open on the right side of the net. The freshman deposited it into the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the year, including his third game-winning goal during his first season with Quinnipiac.
