Freddy Hall – Quinnipiac University
Sophomore Durval Pereira scored in the 85th minute to lift the Quinnipiac University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Long Island. The second-year forward's first goal of the season found the back to help Quinnipiac University improve to 5-0-1 in Northeast Conference play, while 8-1-5 overall. Long Island loss drops their conference record to 2-4 and 5-9 overall. The win keeps Quinnipiac in a first-place tie in the NEC with 16 points.
Senior goalkeeper Hall turned away two Long Island shots in the game to earn his eighth shutout of the season. Hall has now gone 317 minutes without allowing an opponent to score. The Quinnipiac netminder also challenged Long Island forwards inside the goal box, forcing several shots wide of the net.
Anthony Hunter, Tre Ming, Tahj Bell, Shaquille & Shakhai Trott & Terrin Smith - South Kent
South Kent went on the road and defeated King Low Heywood Thomas School 7-1 on their home turf.
The game was tied at one apiece in just the sixth minute after King scored on a corner kick to tie it up. From that point on South Kent went on a rampage and scored the next six goals to seal the deal. South Kent got 2 goals from Fabio Pereira while other goals were scored by Hunter, Luca Gimenez, Nate Kempe, Ian Ross, and Cody Champagne. Defender Curtis Weir had two assists out of the back, while Hunter also contributed two assists. Sal Borea and Shakhai Trott had excellent games on the defensive end. Shaquille Trott had five saves in goal for South Kent, who are now 12-0-1.
