Bean & Ottawa Fury Win

IslandStats.com
Keishen Bean and the Ottawa Fury wrapped up the regular season in fine fashion with a 2-0 victory over the Brooklyn Knights to win the Northeast Division title and finish the season undefeated. Two goals from Will Beauge ensured the Fury will host the Divisional Playoff in Ottawa next Saturday (July 25th).

In front of a packed house at the Algonquin College Soccer Complex the Fury needed only a single point to clinch the division title. Will Beauge brought the crowd to their feet in the 28th minute beating the Knight's keeper Chris Antonino on a deflected shot.

The Knights looked to have pulled even moments later when Sebastien Alvarado headed home a free kick, but it was called back due to an offsides call. Ottawa could have gone up two goals just before half if not for the goal post that stymied Justin Dasah to keep the score 1-0 in favor of Ottawa.

Both teams spent the early moments of the second half battling for possession in the midfield. When Brooklyn switched their formation to 3-4-3 the Fury began to generate several great opportunities with the best chance coming of the boot of Liam Maloney, who was robbed by the Knights keeper who was also helped by his defense in clearing the rebound struck by Beauge off the goal line.

Continuing to press, Ottawa's Andrew Rigby found a streaking Beauge, who eluded the defense with his first touch before blasting a low shot into the bottom left corner for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.

The Ottawa Fury finish the 2009 regular season with a record of 12-0-4 placing them second in the entire PDL to the Reading Rage by a single point. Ottawa is one of only two undefeated teams in the 68-team league.
