In the first of two warm up games against the Under 20 Greek squad, Erica Woods and the Great Britain under 20 Team came away with a strong 48 - 38 win in a low scoring defensive battle.
Charlotte Stoddart led the way with 13 points and 7 rebounds while Mary Durojaye pulled down 8 boards and scored 9 points. Other key contributors were Leah Dehann with two huge three pointers while Kashmere Joseph and Harriet Yea chipping in 5 points each.
Great Britain hung with Greece from the start and found themselves only down three points at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was scrappy and ugly as each team only managed to score a combined 13 points in the quarter, ending with the Greek team leading 20-18 at the half.
The third quarter proved to be Great Britain’s best as they held Greece to only four points with their first basket coming with only 2:00 minutes to go in the quarter. Great Britain rattled off a game high 18 points in the quarter and went into the fourth leading 24-36.
Greece would not go away quietly however as they continued to fight in the fourth, pulling as close as within six points. But Great Britain would not be denied and held their composure after weathering Greece’s serge.
