The Phoenix Junior Match Play Tournament continued today with the juniors playing their semi-final round in wet and tough conditions. The juniors are placed into three divisions; Blue Tee Group; White Tee Group and Red Tee Group. The Phoenix Junior Match Play tournament is looking to have an exciting finish with Bermuda’s top juniors advancing in the next round. Match Play is a much different format than stroke play where players will try to be more aggressive at times to beat their opponent. The talk of the day was Zayla Smith the only female in the group who has managed to make it to the final with her consistent play.
BLUE TEE GROUP
Ryan Benevides knocked out the defending Champion Ryan Roberts today on the 19th hole setting up an exciting 36 hole final tomorrow against Tyler Balcombe who defeated Alex Osborne 4 & 3 in the other semi final match of the day. Ryan Roberts and Alex Osborne will battle it out over 18 holes for 3rd and 4th place merits. In the consolation final, Jesse Marshall will face John Seymour.
WHITE TEE GROUP
There were no matches in the White Tee Group today. Tomorrow’s showdown in the final will see Dwayne Pearman Jr. play against Nick Hall. In the consolation final Mitchell Campbell will go against Ashton Bell and Julien Papadopoulo and Aaron Railton will square off for 3rd and 4th place positions.
RED TEE GROUP
The only female in the group, Smith advanced into the final with her steady play. She beat a tough opponent, Daniel Hetzel 2 & 1. Smith will face Thomas Allkins who managed to get past his opponent, Khari Place 2 & 1. Arriek Douglas will face Mikus Ming in the consolation final while Place and Hetzel will play for 3rd and 4th place. All matches in this group will be 18 holes tomorrow. Players left in this group will play an 18 hole Stableford competition.
