Clinical Montgomery & Resilient Simons Set Up Final Date

IslandStats.com
The W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium bore witness to a day of contrasting fortunes as the Men’s A Semi-Finals took center stage at the W.E.R. Joell Memorial Tennis Tournament.

The headline act in the Men’s A Division saw Wayne Montgomery continue his imperious march through the draw. Montgomery was in a ruthless mood against Jack Keyes, conceding just two games across the entire match to secure a 6-0, 6-2 victory. His clinical baseline play left Keyes with few answers, ensuring the top seed enters the final with a formidable momentum.

On the other side of the bracket, Tariq Simons was forced to work significantly harder to earn his place in the championship match. Facing a resilient Zachary Mcguire, Simons showcased his experience to edge out a competitive opening set before being pushed to a tie-break in the second. Simons’ ability to find the lines in crucial moments eventually told, as he sealed a 6-3, 7-5 win to set up a blockbuster final against Montgomery.

The Ladies A Division saw Chloe Mcbrearty produce one of the most authoritative displays of the week. In her second-round encounter with Arianna Parra Delgado, Mcbrearty delivered a "double bagel," winning 6-0, 6-0 in a performance defined by high-intensity serving and relentless accuracy.

In the Men’s B Semi-Finals, the contrast in match styles continued. Will Britten mirrored Mcbrearty's efficiency, dismantling Adam Grasso 6-0, 6-1 to coast into the final. However, the match of the afternoon belonged to Donn Trott and Darren Woods.

Trott looked to be heading for a swift exit after Woods swept the opening set 6-3. However, Trott produced a remarkable turnaround, clawing back to take the second 6-0 and force a deciding championship tie-break. In a tense finale that tested the nerves of both players, Trott eventually outlasted Woods to secure a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory and a spot in the B Division final.
