IslandStats.com
Bermuda’s rising tennis talents have touched down in El Salvador to begin their campaign at the 2026 World Junior Tennis pre-qualifying competition, as the island’s racquet sports continue their impressive momentum.

With the senior national team still buoyed by their recent qualification for the Davis Cup World Group II, the focus now shifts to the next generation. Two three-member squads, selected by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA), have arrived in San Salvador to compete in the Under-14 regional event, which serves as a gateway to the prestigious ITF World Junior Tennis Finals.

Running from March 23rd to 30th, the tournament features the premier youth talent from across Central America and the Caribbean. Bermuda’s girls' team is led by captain Shelby Madeiros and features the trio of Arianna Parra, Chloe McBrearty, and Ella Metschnabel. On the boys' side, David Leader takes the captaincy, overseeing a squad comprising of Riley Maybury, Trystan Thompson, and Raul Maldonado.

The competition is fierce, with 22 nations represented in total. The boys' division sees 13 teams vying for supremacy, while 9 teams are set to battle in the girls' event. Bermuda will face off against regional heavyweights including Trinidad & Tobago, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and the host nation El Salvador.

At stake is a coveted spot in the Final Qualifying event, scheduled to take place in Canada later this April. For these young Bermudians, the week in San Salvador represents more than just a tournament; it is a vital opportunity to test their tactical depth and coordination on the international stage as they look to follow in the footsteps of the island’s successful senior stars.
