The Tulane University men’s tennis team faced a difficult afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center as they fell to a commanding six one defeat at the hands of Florida Atlantic. Despite the home court advantage, the Green Wave struggled to find their rhythm against a clinical Owls side that dictated play from the opening exchanges.
The tone for the encounter was set during the doubles competition where Bermuda’s Daniel Phillips and partner Lance Nisbet were handed the responsibility of the number one position. The duo battled hard against Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera but ultimately succumbed to a six four defeat. This opening setback placed immediate pressure on the hosts heading into the singles portion of the dual match.
Phillips returned to the court for the marquee matchup in the number one singles spot where he once again found himself facing off against Havlicek. The Florida Atlantic standout, who currently holds a world ranking of 1941 and has previously climbed as high as 1324, proved to be a formidable obstacle. Phillips displayed flashes of his trademark resilience but was unable to break Havlicek’s serve consistently, eventually going down in straight sets with a final score of six four, six three. The result capped off a challenging day for the Bermudian as his side looks to regroup for their upcoming fixtures.
