Bermuda to Host Mexico in Historic Davis Cup World Group II Tie

IslandStats.com
In an announcement from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) draw held today, February 12th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. GMT, Bermuda has been drawn against the 9th-seeded Group II nation, Mexico, for the next round of the Davis Cup World Group II.

In a further boost for local sport, Bermuda has been elected to host the event on home soil this coming September (18th–19th or 19th–20th). This represents a significant milestone for the island; Bermuda has never before hosted a Davis Cup match of this magnitude.

Coming off a hard-fought, historic 3-2 victory over Georgia in Cyprus last week, the road ahead remains challenging. Mexico is a premier tennis nation, respected globally, with several players consistently ranked within the top 300 of the ATP world rankings. However, the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) views this as a prime opportunity for our local stars, including Daniel Phillips, Trey Mallory, Zachy Maguire, and Wayne Montgomery, under the captaincy of Ricky Mallory Jr., to showcase their prowess in front of a home crowd.

Hosting an event of this magnitude requires a significant mobilization of resources. To meet the International Tennis Federation (ITF) standards for World Group II, the BLTA will be focusing on:

● Facility Enhancements: Ensuring our courts and spectator facilities meet international broadcasting and play standards.
● Logistical Coordination: Managing everything from official officiating, to support staff, to security for the hosting of the visiting Mexican delegation.
● Strategic Partnerships: We will be seeking increased support from the government, corporate sponsors, and the community to ensure this event is a commercial and operational success."

Michael Wolfe, President of the BLTA, commented on the draw:

Following the official ITF draw held earlier today, I am pleased to confirm that Bermuda has been selected to host Mexico for the Davis Cup World Group II tie this coming September.

To host a nation of Mexico’s caliber is a great honor and a true testament to the heights our program has reached. This is a premier opportunity for Bermuda to display our tennis prowess and for our players to showcase their talent directly in front of their home nation. While we recognize the competition only gets tougher—facing a seeded nation with several players ranked in the world’s top 300—this is a challenge we are fully prepared to rise and face. The work begins immediately to ensure we host an event that meets the highest international standards.

For our tennis community, this is a ‘homecoming’ like no other. It provides vital inspiration for our junior players, who will see world-class tennis on their home soil and see firsthand that a pathway to the global stage exists right here in Bermuda. It is a moment for immense national pride, allowing the entire island to rally behind 'the Pink and Blue' in person. Furthermore, it brings significant global visibility, once again showcasing Bermuda as a premier destination for international sporting events.

We look forward to welcoming Mexico to our shores and seeing our community out in full force in the stands this September."

The BLTA will begin mobilization immediately to secure the necessary resources, facility requirements, and community support required to host the Mexican delegation. We encourage the entire island to mark their calendars for September as we prepare to welcome world-class tennis to our shores.
