Bermuda's Daniel Phillips and his partner Hady Kordy have made a superb start to the 2025 ITA Division I Men's Southern Regional Championships, advancing in both the Singles and Doubles competitions at the University of Alabama.
Phillips, representing Tulane University, secured his place in the Singles Main Draw Round of 32 with a dominant victory on Friday.
Phillips defeated Benjamin Martin from the University of Mississippi in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, to move into the last 32 of the prestigious regional tournament. His commanding performance demonstrated excellent form against high-level collegiate opposition.
Phillips and his partner Hady Kordy also advanced in the Doubles draw. The Tulane duo secured a decisive victory in their opening match, showcasing composure in the crucial points.
The pair overcame the challenge of Charlie Piegza and Santiago Arredondo with a solid 8-5 win in the 8-game pro-set format.
The ITA Regional Championships is a key fixture on the US collegiate tennis calendar, with players competing to qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships. Phillips and Kordy’s dual successes ensure the Tulane team has a strong presence moving forward in the tournament.
