The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association’s (BLTA) Annual Back to School Tournament concluded at the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium, with Tobiah Goodchild emerging as a dual victor in a dramatic final day of action.
Boy’s 18 Final Goes the Distance
The Boy’s Singles 18 Final provided the day's centerpiece, evolving into a tense three-set battle between Tobiah Goodchild and the previous round’s giant-killer, Tristan Pettit.
Pettit, who had shocked the top seed in the semi-finals, started strong by claiming the opening set 6-4. However, Goodchild rallied to take the second set 6-3. The deciding set became a nail-biting affair, going deep into a tie-break before Goodchild finally edged the contest 7-6 to claim the prestigious Under 18 title.
Walkover Crowns Spriggs
While Goodchild was celebrating his hard-fought victory, his intense tournament schedule had a direct impact on the Boy’s Singles 16 Final. Goodchild was scheduled to meet Jadon Spriggs for the title but was forced to withdraw from the match. This granted Spriggs the win by walkover, crowning him the Boy’s Singles 16 champion.
Mcbrearty Dominates Girls’ Final
In the Girls Singles 14 Final, Chloe Mcbrearty delivered a performance of clinical dominance. Following her flawless quarter-final display, Mcbrearty once again asserted her authority by defeating Arianna Parra Delgado in comfortable straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to lift the championship trophy.
The tournament successfully concluded a competitive start to the junior tennis season, showcasing both the resilience and rising talent in Bermuda’s junior ranks.
