Bermuda's Daniel Phillips has made his debut for Tulane's men's tennis team, after his transfer from Arizona State University suffering a 2-1 defeat to North Alabama at the Blue Gray Invitational in Birmingham.
Playing in the Blue bracket, Phillips and doubles partner Alec Gaudin got Tulane off to a winning start, taking down North Alabama's Lachlan Brain and Satoru Nakajima 8-4.
However, the tide turned in the singles matches.
Phillips faced Brain in a tense three-setter. The Bermudian started strongly, clinching the first set 6-2, but Brain fought back to win the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3, respectively, to claim the match.
North Alabama then sealed the overall victory when Nakajima defeated Gaudin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
