Eight Bermuda's amateur golfers have begun their campaign at the 2025 World Amateur Handicap Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Bermudian contingent battled hard on the opening day, with several players making a strong start in their respective divisions.
Ann Symonds leads the charge, currently in first place in Flight #57, the Senior Women 60 & Above Division, after a superb Net Round of 76. Not far behind is Ann Mitchell, who is tied for second in Flight #58, also in the Senior Women 60 & Above Division, with an opening Net Round of 76, just one stroke off the leader.
In the Women’s Gross Division, Tracy Burgess sits in third place in Flight #54 after an opening round of 84, placing her just one stroke back from the leader. Morgan Lightbourne, competing in the same division, finished the day tied for ninth with a round of 89.
The Men's Divisions also saw some strong starts. Richard Marriott is tied for second place in Flight #10, the Senior Men’s (50-59) Division, after a First Net Round of 74. He will start the second round four strokes off the lead, while Anthony Than is tied for 41st in the same division.
In the Super Senior Men’s (70-79) Division, Gary Venning is in ninth place in Flight #47 with a First Round Net score of 76, five strokes off the lead. Frank Morgan finished the day in fourth place in Flight #49 with a Net score of 77.
