Bermudian kart racer Scott Barnes and his teammates endured a litany of mechanical issues to secure a hard-fought fourth-place finish in a Six-Hour Endurance Race at the Orlando Indoor Karting Centre over the weekend.
Despite leading the race at various stages, the team was plagued by misfortune, a series of setbacks that ultimately cost them a place on the podium.
"It is all we had on the day, not because we got beat on track, just had the worst luck!" Barnes explained. He detailed the team's struggles, which included a broken clutch while in the lead, a back hub that broke with two hours remaining, and a wheel coming off.
Despite the continuous problems, Barnes and his team showed incredible resilience. They fought their way back into contention and were on the verge of making a pass to reclaim third place when yet another issue arose.
"The chain broke," Barnes said. "We got back out and still finished fourth, one spot off the podium."
The result is a testament to the team's perseverance and determination to compete, even in the face of significant adversity, and underscores their impressive performance against a competitive field.
