Bermudian racing driver Donovan Dyer has made a determined return to the track at the BRSCC 2025 Cadwell Park Summer Race Weekend, having successfully rebuilt his car's engine following a previous race failure.
The event, which takes place on the challenging circuit dubbed the “mini Nürburgring,” saw Dyer get back behind the wheel for the Kent Models Mazda MX-5 Championship. Just weeks after his last engine blew out, Dyer and his team at Bromley Motorsport worked tirelessly to get a new engine in the car, allowing him to compete.
In the qualifying session, Dyer showed he was quickly getting back to pace, clocking a fastest lap time of 1:49.359 on his ninth lap, which put him in 20th position on the grid.
He then took part in Race One, which spanned 11 laps and a distance of 24.05 miles. Dyer finished a respectable 17th with a time of 20:22.872, successfully achieving his pre-race goal of "surviving the weekend" on the demanding circuit.
Dyer said, “The plan was to take the qualification session lightly as the engine needed to be run in.
Race 1, we could push the engine a bit more so I was able to shave 1.5 seconds off my time and finished 17. There were a couple of near misses as it is really close wheel to wheel racing, but I managed to avoid them without too much damage, just a slightly crushed front bumper.”
