Racing driver Donovan Dyer's promising rookie season in the Kent Models MX-5 Championship has hit a major roadblock after a severe engine failure. The self-funded driver, who is competing for Bromley Motorsport, is now seeking to raise £5,000 to cover the costs of a full engine rebuild and get back on the track.
Dyer, who has been a passionate motorsport enthusiast since childhood, has been a strong contender for the top spot in the rookie class. However, his season was derailed at the recent race weekend at Oulton Park. The extreme trackside temperatures, which soared to over 40°C inside the car, caused the engine to "blow a gasket," according to Dyer.
In a statement, Dyer said: "As a self-funded driver, every entry fee, part, tire, and repair comes straight from my own pocket, and I've stretched my resources as far as they can go just to get this far."
His crowdfunding appeal is aiming to raise the necessary funds to complete the season. The setback comes at a crucial time for Dyer, who has been working three jobs to chase his racing dream.
