The Bermuda Junior Cycling programme hosted a thrilling Bermuda Bicycle Association Road Race today along the picturesque yet punishing South Shore loop. Elite and amateur cyclists alike rose to the challenge of one of the island’s most technical courses.
Starting and finishing at Gulfstream Restaurant in Southampton, each lap featured the steep, defining ascent up Lighthouse Hill – a climb that proved decisive in breaking up the field in both the A/B and C/Women's races.
In the highly anticipated A/B Category (4 laps / 36.4 miles), it was Conor White (Muck-Off-SRT-Stork) who surged ahead in the final stretch, claiming victory with a time of 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 55 seconds (1:28:55). He was followed closely by Kaden Hopkins (Uni Sport Lamentinois) and Matt Boys (Winners Edge), both of whom were given the same time after a tight group finish. The race saw strong tactical efforts and strategic climbing up the challenging Lighthouse Hill.
In the C & Women’s Category (3 laps / 27.3 miles), Gianluca Bortoli (Independent) claimed first place in 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 53 seconds (1:16:53), outpacing Daniel Ringer (Winners Edge) who also recorded the same time. Neil MacGuinness (BRCC) finished a well-fought sprint in third, clocking 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 55 seconds (1:16:55).
Naomi MacGuinness (Winners Edge) led the Women’s field with a commanding performance on the challenging terrain, clocking a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes, and 43 seconds (1:21:43). Karen Smith (Winners Edge) was the second female finisher, stopping the clock in 1 hour, 25 minutes, and 54 seconds (1:25:54), and Arlene MacGuinness (Winners Edge) finished third with a time of 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 2 seconds (1:35:02).
The event, hosted by the Bermuda Junior Cycling programme, provided a rigorous test for all participants and another exciting day of racing on Bermuda's roads.
