The Port Royal Tennis Courts have sprung into action, playing host to the opening day of the Temple of Tennis Junior Challenger Tournament. A busy day on the courts saw a total of five matches contested across various age groups.
The Under 12 Boys' Round Robin division saw a dominant performance from Ollie Anderson, who swept aside William Leman in comprehensive straight sets, securing a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Anderson's commanding display set an early marker in the tournament.
A quarter-final clash in the Under 12 Girls' division proved to be a much tighter affair, requiring a tense tie-breaker to determine the victor. Hattie Hughes battled through a close encounter against Francesca Cressall-Haycock, eventually clinching the win 6-4, 6-7, 12-10 in a hard-fought contest that went the distance.
In the Under 16 Boys' Round Robin, Tobiah Goodchild also recorded a straight-sets victory, defeating Riley Maybury with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 scoreline. Goodchild's strong start will boost his confidence as the tournament progresses.
The Under 18 Girls' Round Robin division saw Nadhira Durham secure a comfortable straight-sets win over Samantha Morgan, with Durham taking the match 6-2, 6-1. Durham's solid performance puts her in a good position in her group.
Finally, in the Under 18 Boys' Round Robin, Sebastian Pukk also recorded a straightforward victory, defeating Jadon Spriggs with a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. Pukk's confident start will see him aiming to build momentum in the tournament's later stages.
