Trey Mallory and his top-seeded UNC Wilmington (UNCW) Men's Tennis teammates have once again asserted their dominance in the Coastal Athletic Association, defeating No. 2 Elon 4-2 to claim the 2025 CAA Championship.
This victory marks UNCW's fifth consecutive CAA title and their 11th overall, continuing their reign over Elon in the finals for the fourth straight season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
UNCW set the tone early by securing the crucial doubles point. In the No. 1 doubles match, Mallory and his partner Aleex de Gabriele were leading Elon's Rafael Ymer and Jack Curtis 5-4 when the overall doubles point was clinched by UNCW's victories in the number one and three spots.
Elon fought back in the singles, levelling the match at 1-1 when Jack Curtis secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 singles match against Mallory. However, UNCW quickly regained control, demonstrating their strength at the top of the lineup. Wins in the number one, two, and three singles spots proved decisive, ultimately earning UNCW their fifth consecutive CAA Championship title and solidifying their position as the kings of the conference. While Mallory suffered a singles defeat, his contribution in the crucial doubles point played a part in UNCW's latest triumph.
