Police Gymkana Back after 22 Years

IslandStats.com
After a protracted absence 22 years the Bermuda Police Service, is reinstituting the Police Gymkhana.

This Gymkhana will be held this year during the Bermuda Police Service Police Week on Saturday October 2nd at Police Field in Devonshire. The day will begin at 10am and until 5:30pm.

Chairman of the Gymkhana Committee Sergeant Clifford Roberts said, “The purpose of the Gymkhana is to bridge that gap between the Bermuda Police Service family and the General Public, this would allow us to establish a relationship with the young people in our community: many times the first time young people come in contact with police is when something negative takes place. This changes that, they have an opportunity to work with and foster meaningfully relationships with officers.”

“We want to promote healthy lifestyles for young people in a Drug Free Sporting Environment,” continued Roberts.

Roberts went on to say, “The Events on the day will see people taking part in Pop a wheelie contests, last man out race, Slowest, rider race, sprint race, team relay, and Celebrity race just to name a few.”

“We are asking for Primary and Middle Schools Age youngsters as well as their parents to come out and enjoy a fun filled day, all we do ask is that they must bring a working cycle and a approved Cycling Helmet”, continued Roberts.

“In closing I would just like to thank our Sponsors Barrits, Butterfield and Vallis, Winner’s Edges, Bike Shops and Dunkleys for supporting the Bermuda Police Service and the wider community,” concluded Roberts.
