The Southside Motor Sports Park was a casualty of the high winds over the past few days. The Grand Stand seating that separates the Motocross Track and the Karting & Motor-Cycles Track was blown over a six foot safety fencing and has ended up in the middle of the Karting & Motor-Cycles Racing Track, resulting in no Karting or Moto-Cross Racing this past weekend.
Also safety barriers have ended up against the perimeter fencing and some have even blown away, Department of Youth, Sport & Recreation, Senior Sport Development Officer Calvin Simons said, “It appears that the high winds lifted the Grand Stand and blew it across the Track and it came to rest in the middle of the Karting & Motor-Cycles Racing Track”.
“We are in the process of making sure that things are re-secured as we are expecting some more weather to move through area in the coming days”, continued Simons.
“I also have spoken to Works and Engineering about the Grand Stand as well as the company that insulted the fencing that has been damaged , also we have been in touch with the three sporting Bodies that utilize the facility to make sure that their belongings are secured”, concluded Simons.
