Growing up I really admired Alexander Popov "The Russian Rocket". He was such a fierce competitor and dominated sprint swimming for a long time.

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?
A.
There was no single moment that I had decided I wanted to compete internationally. As I got better in the sport competing internationally became the next thing to do. I loved racing and traveling so what could be better than traveling to race other competitors.

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?
A.
Definitely sprint Freestyle. I always enjoyed going fast and sprint Freestyle is the fastest that you can go in the water.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
My leg mobility and flexibility could be improvement significantly. Also working on gaining more power endurance in my legs

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
I’m most proud of my swim at the London Olympics. I was happy that I was able to deal with the pressure of the moment and improve on my best performance. It showed me that I could step up at the important moments and that it would all come down to getting better preparation the next time around.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2014?
A.
To swim fast, train hard and perform well at all my competitions

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?
A.
During the heavy part of the training season I swim 8 times, weight training 3 times and dry land and abs sessions 3 times. Each swim is targeted toward improving a certain part of my race or to gain more endurance. The weight training focuses on power, upper body and lower body by session. Each and every workout is usually challenging. We don't normally get an active recovery until we are really beat into the ground. Sunday is always off for recovery

Q. Is this your first Commonwealth Games?
A.
This will be my third commonwealth Games. I attended in 2002 and 2010. I missed 2006 as I wasn't positive I wanted to continue in the sport

Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in Swimming?
A.
I’m usually spending time with my family. I get to spend a lot of time with my kids and its amazing to watch them develop each and every day. I also enjoy going to the movies and watching my favorite TV series. I try to do things that are relaxing as training can be so taxing on my body. Being an athlete is an around the clock job. Although I do enjoy hitting the go kart track when I have time. I love to race something were my body isn't the main power provider.
