X’Road’s 2 Wolves 1
After a scoreless first half at the Devonshire Rec. X’Road’s took the lead in the 48th minute when Andre Burgess found the back of the net, however Wolves equalized one minute later when Vincent Minors Jr. found the back of the net. In the 71st minute Khomeini Talbot scored the X’Road’s winner as they advanced to the next round.
BAA 3 Flanagan’s Onion’s 4
Pete Robey gave the Flanagan’s Onion’s the lead in the 9th minute, however Willie Clemens equalized for BAA in the 21st minute when he converted from the penalty spot. Six minutes later Simon Gregory converted from the penalty spot to put the Flanagan’s Onion’s back in front, Gregory found the back of the net again in the 36th minute to give Flanagan’s Onion’s a 3 – 1 lead, but on the stroke of half time Willie Clemens converted from the penalty spot for the second time to pull BAA within one. Keston Lewis restored the Flanagan’s Onion’s two goal lead when he scored in the 48th minute, but seven minutes later Vance Hill scored to pull BAA within one goal again, however they could not find the equalizer as Flanagan’s Onion’s advanced to the next round.
46th Annual Friendship Trophy Preliminary Round
Southampton Rangers 2 Dandy Town Hornets 4
The Dandy Town Hornets got a hat-trick from Angelo Simmons and a single strike from Fabian Frankson as they defeated the Southampton Rangers 4 – 2. Gregory Johnson and Ijahmon Mallory scored a goal apiece for Southampton Rangers.
Shield and Friendship Christmas Tournament
On the day the preliminary games are being played the Bermuda Football Association announced the 47th annual Shield Competition and the 46th annual Friendship Trophy Competition. The two respective competitions hold a combined 93 years of outstanding performances and history played in Bermuda.
This evening will see X’Road’s taking on Wolves at the Devonshire Rec and BAA taking on Flanagan’s Onion’s at BAA beginning at 7pm in Shield Preliminary action, while at 9pm Friendship Preliminary action this evening the Southampton Rangers will take on the Dandy Town Hornets at the BAA Field.
Meanwhile tomorrow December 14th the Somerset Eagles will host the Young Men Social Club at the Somerset Cricket Club beginning at 7pm and then at 9pm the Somerset Trojans will host the Boulevard Blazers.
The Shield and Friendship Tournaments will then get underway on Sunday December 18th with a full slate of matches and will be played over seven days during the Christmas period. The Finals will be played January 1st at the National Sports Centre.
