Mallory's Brazil Training Camp Update

Trey Mallory has been attending the ITF/COSAT training camp in Brazil, the South American Tennis Confederation (COSAT) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) selected Bermudian Mallory to attend an Elite Training Camp for the best 15 -16 year olds in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The players have been doing various kinds of fitness tests including a virtual fitness test where they had to use the Oculus which is an American Technology that specializes in virtual reality hardware and software.

The Oculus equipment was used to test players for decision making under extreme fatigue.

Two of the boys were selected to do 2 and half hours of physical exercise before they took the test, at the end of the exercise period the two boys had to stand in one place for another half hour during the Virtual exam.

The test is not only a physical challenge but also it tests players mental strength.

Mallory Selected To Brazil Training Camp

The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association announced that Trey Mallory has been selected to attend an ITF/COSAT training camp.

The South American Tennis Confederation (COSAT) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has selected Bermudian Mallory to attend an elite training camp for the best 15 -16 year olds in the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The camp is being held on December 2nd to December 8th at the Brazilian Tennis Federation in Florianopolis, Brazil. This is a privilege only afforded to 5 boys and 5 girls hand selected out of thousands of junior players in the regions. Mallory is the first and only Bermudian player to be offered such a prestigious opportunity to participate and train in Brazil.

Coaches for this event will include the Davis Cup Captain for Brazil and former professional player Joao Zwetsch, who has coached players in the top 50 in the world. In addition, assisting with the coaching will be Brazilian Davis Cup coach Marcelo Melo (former #1 in doubles) who recently won this year’s Rolex Shanghai Masters double title, his fourth title this season. Also coaching, is High Performance Coordinator, Patricio Arnold from Argentina, former ATP player Thiago Alves and top 10 ITF Junior Coach Arthur Rabelo.

Regional ITF Director John Goede said, “The coaches assigned by the ITF are all very experienced and will be able to guide the selected players to play themselves into a higher range of junior athletes on the ITF junior Circuit. Very important is the continuation of the intensity of training and the contents of fitness, strategy and shot selection in match play situations. Massive ‘homework’ after each day will be the responsibility of the athletes.”

Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association’s President, Mike Wolfe said, “It is exciting to think that our top junior player is going to be training with such high caliber individuals who are on the world stage competing. Mallory has put in the hard work, training long hours, representing Bermuda in ITF Team Events when called upon and it’s paying off. To be selected amongst a vast talent pool is a real testament to his dedication to the sport. It is great exposure for Mallory, and Bermuda Tennis”.

Warner's ITF/COTECC Training Camp Update

Bermuda’s Tennis player Antonio Warner is now winding down a four-day training camp in the Dominican Republic.

Warner was invited to the training camp by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the camp ends on tomorrow.

Sixteen players from the region including Warner were selected based on their performance during the last 12 months in ITF and COTECC tournaments, and from observations made by the Caribbean’s ITF Development Officer, John Goede.

The invitation to the ITF/COTECC Under 12 Development Camp was extended through Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association, and according to the ITF, the training camp forms part of its commitment to assist in the overall development of the most talented junior players in the region.

The camp is under the direction of Gustavo Granitto, Cecilia Ancalmo and John Goede who indicated that the participants will receive high-level training in all key areas.

James is ranked as Jamaica’s number one 14 and under player and has represented Jamaica at the junior level.

Warner Selected to ITF/COTECC Training Camp

The Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) announced that Antonio Warner has been selected to attend an ITF/COTECC training camp.

The 12 & Under ITF/COTECC training camp will be take place in the Dominican Republic from November 19th-23rd.

The invited players for this training camp are selected by the ITF based on their performance in the last 12 months, during ITF and COTECC organized events, during 12 & Under invitational tournaments in our Region and by the observation of the ITF Development Officer during tournaments and visits of each Nation.

Warner will receive first class coaching from Gustavo Granitto, considered to be one of the worldwide leading experts in junior development and high performance.

Also, assisting Granitto will be ITF Development Officer Cecilia Ancalmo.

BLTA President Wolfe said, “Warner was selected directly by the ITF. We received a letter from the Executive Director advising that Warner had been selected. We are excited that our work with the ITF is providing this opportunity that would otherwise not be available to our juniors.

It’s also important to note that these opportunities are only available to players who are representing their country in any of the ITF/COTECC team events.”

National Tennis Director Ricky Mallory said, “Not only is this a great opportunity for Warner, but also for Gavin Manders, who the BLTA have assigned to travel with Warner to Dominican Republic. Manders will work alongside Granitto and will be exposed to advanced training concepts that he will learn and bring back home with him.”
