Two National Teams Off to T&T

The Bermuda Football Association have two teams travelling to Trinidad over the next two months, The Womens National Team will compete in the 2006 CONCACAF WOMEN’S GOLD CUP QUALIFICATION Caribbean Zone – Final Round and the Under 17 National Team will compete in the Caribbean Preliminary Qualification to the CONCACAF Under-17. The following information details both tours:

Trinidad & Tobago will stage the Caribbean Women’s Final Round Qualification consisting of two groups of three at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella from 6-10 September.

Group A will have Dominican Republic, Surinam and the host, Trinidad & Tobago, while Bermuda, Haiti and Jamaica are in Group B.

The winners of each group will progress to the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup along with Canada, Mexico, Panama and the host USA in November.

The six-team Women’s Gold Cup, which will crown the CONCACAF champion, will also qualify two nations to the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China. The third-place finisher from the CONCACAF event will face an Asian team in a home-and-away playoff for the final berth to the FIFA tournament.

For a second consecutive year, Trinidad & Tobago will host the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Youth Cup with the participation of 28 Under-16 National teams in the 2006 event, which runs from 14-26 August.
The annual CFU tournament will have as invited guest teams of Canada, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama joining 24 Caribbean sides in the competition.

The first round of the 2006 CFU Youth Cup will have seven groups of four teams playing in six cities: Bacolet, Couva, Malabar, Marabella, Point-Pierre and Port of Spain from 14-19 August.

The group winners along with the just the best second-place finisher will progress into the quarterfinals on 22 August. The semifinals are scheduled for 24 August, with the third-place match and final set for two days later.
Canada won last year’s CFU Youth Cup after defeating Guatemala by a score of 4:0 in final held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on 13 August 2005. Jamaica took the third-place honours earlier in the day with a 3:0 win over Trinidad & Tobago.

The 2006 CFU Youth Cup will also double as the Caribbean Preliminary Qualification to the CONCACAF Under-17 Final Round with the group games due to take place in April 2007.

The best Caribbean team (excluding Jamaica) from the 2006 CFU Youth Cup will advance to the 2007 CONCACAF U-17 Final Round along with Canada, Mexico & USA; two squads from Central America; and final group hosts Honduras and Jamaica.

The top two squads from each of the CONCACAF Final Round Groups will qualify to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea 2007. The two third-place finishers from each of the Final Round Groups will meet in a two-game playoff for the final Confederation berth in the FIFA event.
