BNA Season Ends with Thrilling All-Star Showdowns
|
The Bermuda Netball Association's 2024/25 Winter League season culminated in a day of exciting All-Star matches held at Bermuda College, showcasing the talent across all age groups.
The Under 11 All-Star game saw a dominant performance from the Blue Team, who defeated the Pink Team 12-6. Taylor Kyme led the Blue Team's attack with four goals, supported by Sophia Odouri (3), Alaysia Watson (2), A’Mariss Dyer (1), and Honor White (1). For the Pink Team, Tamirra Richardson netted three goals, Asia Burt added two, and Reegan Lightbourne scored once. Quin Burgess from the victorious Blue Team was named the game's MVP.
The Under 14 match-up also resulted in a Blue Team victory, edging out the Pink Team 13-10. S’mai Tyrell led the scoring for the Blue Team with an impressive seven goals, while Zyari Lawrence contributed six. Jaeda Morgan-Dill led the Pink Team with eight goals, with Dani Brown and Nala Richardson each adding a single goal. The MVP award went to Kse Jennings from the Blue Team.
The Under 18 All-Star game saw the Pink Team emerge victorious with a 27-16 win over the Blue Team. Hailey Trott, who was named the match MVP, led the Pink Team's scoring with 11 goals, supported by Cindi-Anna Darrell (9) and Kammie Mills (7). For the Blue Team, Malaysia Furbert scored five goals, Jazya Brimmer-Peets and Sanaa Grant each netted four, and Akina Williams added three.
The Senior/Celebrity All-Star matches provided further entertainment. In a unique "Coaches vs. 18&U" clash, the Coaches proved too strong, winning 51-21. Notable scorers for the Coaches included Antoine (Twon) Williams (18) and Debbie DeShields (11), while E’Rynn Paynter led the 18&Us with 20 goals.
The Celebrity All-Star game saw Celebrity Blue defeat Celebrity Pink 22-18. Jahtuere Trott and Kimale Evans each scored 11 goals for the Blue Team, while Xavier James (4) and Jordyn Morris (9) led the Pink Team. Idris Sharieff was named MVP for Celebrity Blue, with Xavier James also picking up the MVP award for Celebrity Pink.
The Senior All-Star match provided a thrilling conclusion to the day, with the Blue Team narrowly defeating the Pink Team 34-33 in a closely fought contest. Nabiilah Nasir led the Blue Team's scoring with 20 goals, while Jahkenya Trott netted an impressive 23 goals for the Pink Team. Kiante Lightbourne from the Pink Team was named the Senior All-Star match MVP.
The All-Star games provided a fitting end to an exciting winter netball season, celebrating the talent and passion for the sport across Bermuda.

BNA Celebrates Junior Stars at End-of-Season Awards
|
The Bermuda Netball Association (BNA) recently held its end-of-season Junior Prize Presentation, celebrating the achievements of young players in the 11 & Under, 14 & Under, and 18 & Under Divisions, as well as recognizing the tournament winners.
The event highlighted the talent and dedication of the island's young netballers, showcasing the future of the sport in Bermuda.
11 & Under Division: Special Recognition
In the 11 & Under Division, each team selected a player for Special Recognition, acknowledging their contributions and sportsmanship.
A'Nylah Tucker was recognized from the Dandy Stars. Nylah Hardtman was selected for the North Village Lady Rams. Quin Burgess was named the Phoenix Sparks player. Honor White was chosen for the Storm Lightning. Gabriella Babon was recognized for the Storm Thunder.
A'Mariss Dyer was awarded the 11 & Under Division Player's Player, voted on by her peers.
14 & Under Division: Top Scorers and Award Winners
The 14 & Under Division saw fierce competition in the goal-scoring charts:
Dani Brown from the North Village Lady Rams was the leading goalscorer with 49 goals. Zyari Lawrence from the Phoenix Embers was second with 44 goals. Hailey Oduori representing the Storm finished third with 37 goals. Shiloh Simmons from the Phoenix Embers scored 29 goals, finishing fourth. Azariah Scott from the Phoenix Embers was fifth with 27 goals.
Individual awards in the 14 & Under Division were: Zyari Lawrence from the Phoenix Embers: Top Attacker Kenzi McCreary from the Phoenix Embers: Top Defender and MVP Nala Richardson from the Storm: Player's Player
18 & Under Division: Leading Goalscorers and Accolades
The 18 & Under Division also recognized top goalscorers and outstanding players:
Kammie Mills from the Phoenix Fire led the division with 105 goals. Jamir Hatherley from the Storm was second with 100 goals. Jazya Brimmer-Peets, also from the Storm, scored 74 goals, finishing third. E'Rynn Paynter from the DC Diamonds was fourth with 67 goals. Akina Williams from the North Village Lady Rams scored 52 goals, finishing fifth.
Individual awards in the 18 & Under Division were: Neveah Swan from the North Village Lady Rams: Top Attacker and Player's Player Uni Simmons from the Phoenix Fire: Top Defender Jaya Dillas from the Phoenix Fire: MVP

Delta NetFest Delivers Netball Action at Bernard Park

The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter (BAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated hosted a successful and vibrant Delta NetFest, a family-friendly Netball Tournament at Bernard Park, showcasing the talent and passion for the sport across the island.
The tournament brought together a strong contingent of netball teams, including Dandy Stars, DC Diamonds, Storm, Phoenix, and North Village Community Club, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere. The event featured divisions across various age groups, providing an opportunity for players of all ages to participate.
The Under 11 Division provided an exciting start to the day, with Storm emerging victorious after defeating the Phoenix Sparks 6-2 in the final. Reegan Lightbourne from Storm was named the Tournament or Delta NetFest Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her outstanding performance.
The Phoenix Embers were crowned champions of the Under 14 Division, edging out Storm in a closely contested final that ended 4-3. Kse Jennings from the North Village Lady Rams was awarded the Tournament or Delta NetFest MVP title for her impressive contribution to the tournament.
The Under 18 Division saw Phoenix Fire claim the title after defeating Storm 12-6 in the final. Jaya Dillas from Phoenix Fire was named the Tournament or Delta NetFest MVP, capping off an impressive tournament for her team.
The Delta NetFest proved to be a resounding success, bringing together the netball community in Bermuda for a day of fun, competition, and camaraderie. The tournament highlighted the talent and dedication of the young netball players across the island, with MVP awards recognizing outstanding individual performances. The event also demonstrated the positive impact of community sporting events in promoting active lifestyles and fostering a sense of community.

Phoenix Shine Bright at Bermuda Netball Tournaments

Bernard's Park buzzed with Netball action as the Bermuda Netball Association's annual Harold Doc Dowling Youth Tournament and the Senior Who's Who Tournament unfolded.
11 & Under Division
In the 11 & Under Division, a thrilling finish saw the Phoenix Sparks emerge victorious with 9 points, despite a tie on points with both Storm Thunder and North Village Lady Rams.
However, the Sparks' superior goal difference secured them the top spot. Storm Lightning finished fourth, with the Dandy Stars in fifth. Notable results included a dominant 16-2 win for the Sparks over Dandy Stars and a close 6-5 victory for Storm Thunder over Storm Lightning.
14 & Under Division
The 14 & Under Division witnessed a flawless performance from Storm, who went undefeated to claim the title with 9 points.
Phoenix Embers finished second with 6 points, followed by North Village Lady Rams with 3, and the Dandy Stars in fourth.
Storm's dominance was evident in their 11-0 victory over Dandy Stars and their 7-1 win against Phoenix Embers. 18 & Under Division The Phoenix Fire continued their club's success in the 18 & Under Division, also going undefeated to secure first place with 9 points.
The DC Diamonds finished second with 4 points, North Village Lady Rams third with 3, and Storm fourth with 1.
A highlight was Phoenix Fire's commanding 10-2 victory over Storm, and their 10-4 win over DC Diamonds. Who’s Who Senior Division
The Senior Who's Who Tournament saw a closely contested day one, with St. George's and Phoenix Heat both finishing with 6 points. North Village Lady Rams secured 3 points, while the Tigers and Storm are yet to register a point.
Key results included St. George's narrow 5-4 victory over the Tigers, Phoenix Heat's 11-7 win against North Village Lady Rams, and North Village Lady Rams' convincing 14-3 victory over Storm.
The youth tournaments showcased the promising talent emerging in Bermuda netball, while the senior tournament promises a thrilling conclusion. With teams closely matched, the Who's Who Tournament is set for an exciting day two.

Storm Surge Past Lady Rams in Under-18 Netball Clash
|
The Storm delivered a dominant performance against the North Village Lady Rams in an Under-18 netball encounter at Bernard's Park, securing a resounding 50-21 victory.
The Bermuda Netball Association hosted the highly anticipated match, which showcased the talent and potential of the island's young netballers.
The Storm's attacking prowess proved too much for the Lady Rams defence, with Jamir Hatherley leading the charge with an impressive 20 goals. Jazya Brimmer-Peets contributed 16 goals, while Malaysia Furbert, named Best Attacker, added a further 14.
The Storm's defensive unit was equally formidable, with Journee Belboda earning the Best Defender award. Rayna Abbott's exceptional all-round performance earned her the coveted MVP title.
Despite the scoreline, the North Village Lady Rams displayed resilience and determination. Akina Williams led their scoring efforts with 17 goals, while Kennedy Kowalski and Ra'eesah Robinson each added two.
Neveah Swan was recognized as the Lady Rams' Best Attacker, demonstrating her skill and agility. Zipporah Grant's defensive efforts were acknowledged with the Best Defender award, and she was also named the team's MVP.
The match provided a valuable opportunity for both teams to test their skills and gain experience in a competitive environment. The Storm's comprehensive victory highlights their strength and potential, while the Lady Rams will look to learn from the experience and bounce back in their next outing.
