As Islandstats.com reported back on April 1st 2008, Stacy Babb, Rickelle Smith and Shuntae Todd, will be attending the ICC Americas 2008 Academy and Training Camp at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre in Trinidad and Tobago, from May 18 - May 29, 2008.
The trio will depart on Sunday and will be accompanied by Cinda Bobb, who was invited to the ICC Americas 2008 Academy and Training Camp as the Americas Region, Team Manager.
Cobb said, “I will be part of a group that will assess the girls who are on trial for the Americas Women's Team that will compete in the West Indies Cricket Board Under 19 Tournament”.
The programme will be run by Ann Browne-John, ICC Women's Committee Representative, former West Indies Captain and Level 2 WICB Coach, and assisted by former international players and qualified coaches, Stephanie Power and Jasmine Sammy. The girls will have 10 days of intensive training, education, game situations and will be trying out for the West Indies Cricket Board Under 19 Tournament.
Todd told Islandstats.com today, “I learnt a whole lot on the tour to South Africa during the Women‘s World Cup Qualifiers, I will be using some of the things I learnt from that experience to help me at this training camp”.
“Some of the girls that played in the ICC Americas Regional Tournament in Canada will be there, so we will see how everyone has improved. I am looking to gain as much experience as possible from this and hopefully I can bring some knowledge back” said Smith.
Smith when asked about wicketkeeping said, “Before we departed for South Africa, I said let me try it and I started to like it, but to my surprise when we got there the coach Allan Douglas called my name out to keep wicket”.
Babb who’s last tour was ended with a broken thumb in Bermuda’s second game of the Women‘s World Cup Qualifiers in South Africa said, “I watched the South African Team as they prepared to play a match, their warm ups and how mentally prepared they all looked, talking to them just to get some tips was a good thing, so I am looking forward to this camp to gauge how much I have learnt”.
