St. George’s Cricket Club lose experience player/coach and may lose a promising youngster. Islandstats.com can confirm that Assistant National Coach Herbie Bascome has signed on the dotted line to coach Western Stars for one year, and according to the St. George’s Cricket Club website Rodney Trott is heading back to Bailey’s Bay to lead their cricket program.
Bascome, who captained St. George’s Cricket Club when they dethroned Somerset Cricket Club in the Cup Math Classic at Wellington Oval in 2005, has inked as deal with the St. John’s Road club.
Bascome said, after a long talk with St. George’s Cricket Club President Neil Paynter and others I feel I have made the right decision to move on St. George’s have a coach in George Cannonier and I feel I need to be coaching at this time”.
Bascome continued, “I a looking to structure the Western Stars program to help with their development of the youngsters, hey have a very good group of young players that just need some guidance and that’s were I am hoping to help”.
“I am looking to take the level three coach badge course and I need to be involved in coaching so when this new challenged came my way I decided to take it on”, concluded Bascome.
Bermuda Under 19 National Team Captain Rodney Trott according to the St. George’s Cricket Club website has been promised the club and county cup captaincy to return to his roots at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.
According to the report on the clubs website, Trott joined St. George’s in 2007 to remain playing at the highest level, but rarely featured for the East Enders due to his commitments to the Under 19 National Team. Bailey’s Bay are in dire needs to resurrect their struggling program and the move to persuade Trott back on board, this time as captain, is a step in the right direction.
