Bermuda's premier men's beach volleyball pairing of Kyle Hamilton and Sean Tucker endured a testing start to their NORCECA Continental Qualifying campaign as they launched their bid for an Olympic berth against elite regional opposition.
Facing high-stakes competition with qualification on the line, the Bermudian duo were handed a baptism of fire in their opening pool fixtures against seasoned pairings from Guatemala and Canada.
In their tournament opener, Hamilton and Tucker met the Guatemalan duo of Edgar Andres Maldonado Espinam and Jose Miguel Izaguirre Solis.
Despite spirited resistance, the Bermudian pair struggled to counter Guatemala’s precision at the net, falling to a 21-13, 21-11 defeat in a 31-minute contest.
Hamilton and Tucker were back on the sand shortly after to take on Canada's Samuel Schachter and Jonathan Pickett.
The Canadian combination asserted control early, capitalising on sharp transition play to deny the Bermudians rhythm. Hamilton and Tucker put up solid resistance in the opening frame before Canada pulled away to wrap up a 21-14, 21-7 victory, matching the 31-minute duration of Bermuda's first clash.
With two steep challenges behind them, the Bermuda pairing will look to regroup and adjust as the tournament continues.
