The next generation of Bermudian footballing talent took center stage at Bernard Park, treating local spectators to an extraordinary, high-octane double-header that produced a staggering 12 goals across two thrilling encounters in the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) Under-23 Division.
PHC Zebras 3 Devonshire Colts 4
The opening fixture of the afternoon set a breathlessly high bar, as Devonshire Colts narrowly edged out the PHC Zebras 4-3 in a see-sawing contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
The Zebras drew first blood in the 13th minute when Tristan DeSilva coolly converted from the penalty spot to hand his side an early advantage. The Colts responded shifts later, restoring parity in the 22nd minute through a clinical finish from Keino Burch.
Just three minutes later, PHC regained the lead when Enoch Joseph found the back of the net to make it 2-1, a scoreline they would protect until the half-time interval.
The second half unleashed pure defensive chaos as both teams traded blows. Burch struck again for the Colts in the 48th minute to level the score at 2-2, only for DeSilva to answer back with his second of the match just four minutes later, putting the Zebras back in front.
Devonshire Colts refused to capitulate. Leslie Holder spearheaded the fightback, striking in the 56th minute to equalize yet again, before Jonathan Walden emerged as the match-winner, breaking through the PHC defensive lines in the 72nd minute to seal a remarkable 4-3 comeback victory.
Robin Hood 3 Somerset Eagles 2
The drama showed no signs of slowing down in the second match of the double-header, as Robin Hood executed a brilliant late rescue mission to defeat Somerset Eagles 3-2.
Robin Hood enjoyed the brighter start, breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute courtesy of a well-taken effort from Ellis Morgan. However, Somerset Eagles mounted a ferocious response late in the first half. Kevon Douglas leveled proceedings in the 40th minute, before Michael Tyler Emery struck on the stroke of half-time to completely turn the match on its head and give Somerset Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Faced with a second-half deficit, Robin Hood began to dictate the tempo and territorial possession, patiently unlocking the Somerset Eagles rearguard.
Their persistence finally paid off in the 72nd minute when Zhani Burgess found the equalizer to lock the scores at 2-2.
With a point shared looming, Amari Smith became the hero for Robin Hood, showing immense composure in the 86th minute to rifle home the winning goal and cap off an unforgettable day of goal-scoring brilliance at Bernard Park.
