Bermuda’s Kyle Hamilton and Brandon Sousa suffered a straight-sets defeat to the Dominican Republic on day two of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in San Salvador.
The pair returned to the sand at the Flor Blanca Sports Complex following a bye in their final Pool B fixture, moving directly into the classification Semi-Finals for places nine to twelve.
However, they found it tough going against the clinical Dominican tandem of Francisco De Jesús and Oscar José Martínez, who wrapped up a comfortable victory 21-7, 21-14.
De Jesús and Martínez established control from the opening serve, utilizing a powerful net defense and sharp transition play to restrict Hamilton and Sousa to just seven points in a one-sided opening set.
The Bermudian duo found their rhythm in the second set, mounting a much more competitive challenge and showing great resilience in their defensive rallies. Despite the improved display and some fine cross-court winners, the Dominican pair maintained their composure to pull away in the closing stages and seal the match.
The defeat means Hamilton and Sousa will now progress to the final day of action in El Salvador, where they are scheduled to face A’jahnai Merchant and De Andrae Taylor of the U.S. Virgin Islands in a playoff to determine eleventh and twelfth place.
