Somerset Lady Trojans 4 National Academy Under 17 Select 2
Somerset Lady Trojans produced a devastating first-half performance to secure a 4-2 victory over the National Academy Under-17 Select at Bernard Park in the Bermuda Football Association Women's Division.
The Lady Trojans caught their youthful opponents cold, striking twice in the opening five minutes to set the tone for a dominant first half that ultimately put the game out of reach.
It took just two minutes for Somerset to break the deadlock. Symira Lowe-Darrell found space early to beat the Academy goalkeeper and hand her side the perfect start. Before the Under-17s could gather their composure, they fell further behind when Jya Ratteray-Smith found the back of the net in the fifth minute.
The Academy’s defensive woes deepened in the 13th minute when a defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal, giving Somerset a three-goal cushion.
Lowe-Darrell then claimed her second of the afternoon in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a clinical Somerset counter-attack to make it 4-0 and cap off a breathless opening period.
To their credit, the National Academy Under-17 Select refused to fold after the break and mounted a spirited second-half fightback.
Their persistence was rewarded on the hour mark when Daley Outerbridge pulled a goal back to give the development squad a glimmer of hope.
As Somerset began to tire in the closing stages, the Academy continued to push forward, and Priya Dill scored a second for her side ten minutes from time.
Despite the late pressure from the youngsters, the Lady Trojans managed the final minutes sensibly to ensure their spectacular first-half haul was enough to secure all three points.
