The United States, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and El Salvador all enjoyed perfect starts to top their respective pools on the opening day of the fifth stop of the 2026 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour.
The action, which runs from May 29th to 31st, is taking place at the Flor Blanca Sports Complex in San Salvador, where the men’s division delivered plenty of drama on the sand.
However, it proved to be a difficult opening day for Bermuda's Kyle Hamilton and Brandon Sousa, who suffered back-to-back defeats in a highly competitive Pool B.
The Bermudian duo opened their campaign against Costa Rica’s Melvin Brown and Sebastián Valenciano. The Costa Ricans showed their pedigree early on, establishing a rhythm that Hamilton and Sousa struggled to break, wrapping up a comfortable 21-11, 21-8 victory.
Hoping to bounce back in their second match of the day, Hamilton and Sousa showed flashes of resilience against Canada’s Rouzbeh Rahnavard and Robert Kemp.
The Bermudians pushed hard in a competitive opening set, asking plenty of questions of their North American opponents before ultimately dropping it 21-17. But the Canadians shifted gears in the second set, asserting their dominance to close out the match with a 21-8 win.
While Bermuda faces an uphill battle to progress, the host nation El Salvador gave the local crowd plenty to cheer about, joining the tournament heavyweights in a flawless opening-day display to set the pace heading into the weekend.
