Storm Chasers and Lady Stars Secure Eye-Catching Wins

IslandStats.com
Netball Bermuda’s highly anticipated Summer League season burst into life with a frantic four-match opening schedule split evenly across the Coed and Women’s Divisions. The evening delivered high-octane offensive displays and tactical defensive masterclasses, setting an elite physical baseline for the rest of the campaign.

The Coed Division provided the definitive fireworks of the opening block, headlined by a commanding performance from the Storm Chasers, who brushed aside the Allshores Ballers with a 28 to 17 victory. Antione Williams put on an absolute masterclass in the circle, lashing home a magnificent 17 goals to earn individual Attacker of the Match honors. Inshan-Nae Smith chipped in with seven goals and Selah Tuzo added four to complete the Chasers' dominant display, while Most Valuable Player Amali Powell and defender Debre Evans locked down the backline. Despite the defeat, Sheldon Bahadosingh fought valiantly for the Ballers with 11 goals, supported by Nikita Trott with four and Miesha Greaves with two, as Keedai Astwood, Zakiyah Durham, and Micah Pond claimed the side's individual performance awards.

The adjacent Coed fixture produced a nerve-shredding, low-scoring thriller as Somerset narrowly edged past RenRe by a single point, 11 to 10. Makeda Burrows spearheaded the Somerset assault with six goals to claim the Most Valuable Player award, while Ramiah Brangman added five vital points. Alongside the Burrows showcase, Simeon Burrows and Teataphi Pringle excelled in their respective structural roles. RenRe pushed their opponents until the absolute deadline, heavily reliant on a seven-goal performance from Coriah Simmons and three from Krishay Tucker, while Brighton Swan took top honors as MVP alongside defender Taylor Washington.

In the Women’s Division, the Lady Stars laid down a marker with a clinical 26 to 18 triumph over the Netball Bermuda Under 21 Academy. Marissa Brangman led the scoring charts for the Stars with 13 goals, while K’xiyae Gibbons delivered an exceptional attacking performance to notch 10 goals and the Attacker award. Sioma Rudo scored twice and Kim Thompson rounded out the scoring, but it was double-award winner Zindzi Edmead who stole the headlines, securing both the MVP and Defender accolades. The Academy youngsters showed glimpses of immense potential, driven by Alexia Pascall’s sharp 13 goals, four from Jamir Hatherley, and a single strike from E’Rynn Paynter, with Ja’miyah Johnston and Keyahnee Burgess also recognized for their resilience.

The opening round concluded with the PHC Lady Zebras executing a disciplined game plan to defeat Tropical Storm 22 to 14. Sonja Townsend was the undisputed star of the show for the Zebras, delivering a flawless all-around performance to score 15 goals and cleanly sweep the MVP and Attacker of the Match awards. Tyra Simmons added seven goals to the scoreboard while Sideya Dill anchored the defense seamlessly. Tropical Storm struggled to find their rhythm against the physical PHC press, though Selah Tuzo managed six goals in a losing effort, with Honor White, Gabriella Babon, and Journee Belboda digging deep into their reserves to claim the team's individual accolades.
