Bath CC 200/4 Frenchay CC 215
Chare Smith and his Frenchay Cricket Club teammates were left singing in the rain for all the wrong reasons, falling 23 runs short in a damp, weather-affected clash against a clinical Bath CC side.
Despite a stellar bowling display from Rishabh Singh and a fighting half-century from Steffan Davies, Frenchay were ultimately undone by a steep mathematically revised target following a lengthy afternoon downpour.
The day began promisingly for Frenchay, who won the toss and elected to put the visitors in to bat on a surface that looked to offer early assistance.
Bath struggled to find a destructive rhythm initially, largely due to a superb spell from Frenchay’s standout bowler, Rishabh Singh. Singh tore through the upper order, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 34 from his 9 overs, including two maidens. Bermuda's Chare Smith shared the workload from the other end, bowling with plenty of effort but finding less reward, finishing his 9-over shift with 0 for 48.
Just as Frenchay looked to squeeze the middle order, Bath's Harry Allen swung the momentum back to the visitors. Allen anchored the innings beautifully, compiling a resilient, unbeaten 66.
Bath had reached 200 for 4 after 44 overs when the clouds finally burst, forcing the players off the field and bringing a premature end to the first innings.
Following the prolonged delay, the calculators were brought out. When the covers were finally pulled back, Frenchay were handed a heavily adjusted, mammoth revised target: 239 runs required from just 43 overs.
The chase started with intent, but the scoreboard pressure—coupled with a damp outfield—proved a formidable foe.
Steffan Davies played a magnificent lone hand for Frenchay, fighting tooth and nail to keep his side in the hunt with a brilliant 61 not out. Smith also showed his capabilities with the blade, chipping in with a handy 26 to keep the faint hopes of a comeback alive.
Frenchay’s resistance finally broke as they were bowled out for 215, leaving Bath to celebrate a hard-fought 23-run victory under dark skies.
