Somerset Lady Trojans 0 Dandy Stars 0
Defending champions Somerset Lady Trojans have been dealt a significant early-season blow, falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of a disciplined Dandy Stars outfit.
In a contest defined by tactical grit and defensive resilience, the Stars produced a masterclass in frustration, nullifying the Trojans’ vaunted attack before snatching the points in the closing stages at a buoyant Bernard Park.
The first half followed a cagey pattern as the Lady Trojans looked to assert their usual dominance. Despite controlling large periods of possession, the champions found it difficult to penetrate a compact Dandy Stars backline that remained disciplined under sustained pressure.
The Stars, content to play on the counter-attack, successfully turned the match into a tactical stalemate, ensuring both sides headed into the tunnel with the scoreline remaining at 0-0.
The second half mirrored the first, with the Trojans growing increasingly frustrated as clear-cut chances remained at a premium. As the clock ticked toward a stalemate, the decisive moment arrived in the 79th minute.
Teyah Lindo proved to be the match-winner, capitalising on a rare lapse in the Somerset defence to fire home the only goal of the game. The strike ignited celebrations on the Dandy Stars bench and forced the champions into a desperate late surge. However, the Stars held firm through several minutes of stoppage time to secure a landmark victory.
