Bermuda’s presence on the international beach volleyball circuit is set to receive a significant boost this month, as the island prepares to send a representative duo to the latest stop of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Mexico.
Benjamin Barnett and Braedon Alexander Madeiros-Cooke will fly the Bermuda flag during the high-stakes tournament, which is scheduled to run from May 21st to the 25th. The event forms part of the prestigious Continental Tour of the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), bringing together the region's most formidable talent.
The tournament will be hosted in Ciudad Madero, a vibrant coastal city situated on the Gulf of Mexico in the southeastern part of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. Known for its expansive sandy stretches, the venue is expected to provide a demanding environment for the athletes, with humidity and coastal winds likely to play a tactical role.
For Barnett and Madeiros-Cooke, the selection marks a vital step in their development as they test their chemistry and technical skill against elite opposition from across the Americas. The NORCECA tour is a primary pathway for athletes in the region to gain world ranking points and experience in high-pressure environments.
The Bermudian pair will join a diverse field of competitors, each vying for podium finishes in one of the tour's most anticipated Mexican stops.
