Under 17 Select Team 1 PHC Lady Zebras 4
The PHC Lady Zebras have made a statement in the opening fixture of the Bermuda Football Association’s Women’s Division, dispatching a resilient Under-17 Select side 4-1 at a floodlit Bernard Park.
Despite the youthful energy of the national prospects, the experience and clinical finishing of the Zebras proved the difference in a contest that burst into life midway through the first half.
The deadlock was broken in the 21st minute when Adia Gibbons found space in the area to slot home, giving the Zebras an early advantage. However, the Under-17 Select team showed immediate character, hauling themselves level just two minutes later through a composed finish from Priya Dill.
The parity would not last until the interval. As the Zebras intensified their high press, Ja'Shay Trott restored the lead in the 39th minute. The momentum shifted further toward the PHC side just before the whistle when Keunna Dill notched her first of the evening in the 42nd minute, ensuring her side headed into the tunnel with a comfortable 3-1 cushion.
The second half saw a more tactical affair as the Under-17s looked to tighten their defensive shape. However, the Zebras remained relentless in their pursuit of a fourth.
The decisive blow arrived in the 53rd minute. Keunna Dill showcased her predatory instincts once again, finding the net for a second time in the match to effectively end the contest as a spectacle. While the Under-17s continued to show promise in their tactical development, the senior side's physicality and efficiency in the final third ensured all three points headed back to Warwick.
The result sets a high bar for the defending champions, Somerset Lady Trojans, who are expected to face stiff competition this season from this formidable Zebras outfit.
