Smith & Frenchay Cruise to Dominant Victory

IslandStats.com
Frenchay CC 254/9 Bedminster CC 194

Frenchay Cricket Club maintained their strong early-season form on Saturday, securing a comprehensive 60-run victory over Bedminster CC in a high-quality encounter.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Frenchay set out to build a formidable total on a surface that promised plenty for the batsmen. The innings was defined by a masterclass from Tom Bibby, who fell just six runs short of a well-deserved century.

Bibby’s fluent 94 acted as the spine of the Frenchay effort, allowing the side to reach 254 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. While Bermudian international Chare Smith suffered a rare failure with the bat, falling for a duck, the lower order provided enough resistance to ensure a competitive target.

Bedminster’s Harry Drissell was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 4 for 47 from his 10 overs, consistently breaking partnerships just as Frenchay looked set to accelerate.

The Bedminster reply struggled to find the necessary rhythm against a disciplined Frenchay attack. Despite a gritty half-century from Hugo Bush, who top-scored with 55, the hosts were unable to keep pace with the required run rate.

The pressure applied by the Frenchay seamers eventually told, with Alex Stell proving to be the architect of the Bedminster collapse. Stell’s clinical spell of 3 for 26 from 10 overs—including two maidens—stifled the middle order and effectively took the game away from the home side.

Smith, returning to his primary role with the ball, delivered a tight four-over opening spell. While he went wicketless, conceding just 20 runs, his economy helped maintain the scoreboard pressure that eventually saw Bedminster bundled out for 194.
