Manders & Tata Steel Fall to Briton Ferry Town

IslandStats.com
Briton Ferry Town 248/8 Tata Steel 110

Tata Steel’s early-season momentum was halted in emphatic fashion on Saturday as Briton Ferry Town secured a dominant 138-run victory in the South Wales Cricket Association Division One.

After winning the toss, Tata Steel elected to field first—a decision that initially appeared promising but quickly turned into a grueling afternoon in the field. Briton Ferry Town’s G. Malhotra delivered the definitive individual performance of the match, carrying his bat for a magnificent 128 not out.

Malhotra’s century anchored a formidable total of 248 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Despite the onslaught, A. Ghori emerged as the standout for the Tata Steel attack, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 36 from his 10 overs. Bermudian international Jaiden Manders provided steady support, contributing a seven-over spell and picking up the scalp of a dangerous middle-order batsman to finish with 1 for 40.

The run chase never truly gathered the necessary steam as Tata Steel’s top order crumbled against a disciplined Briton Ferry attack. S. Vivek proved to be the architect of the collapse, tearing through the visitors' lineup to claim 4 for 41 from his 10 overs.

While wickets fell regularly at one end, R. Bharadwaj offered a lone glimmer of resistance. Bharadwaj struck a gritty 58, playing several elegant drives to keep the scoreboard moving. He found a brief but explosive partner in Jaiden Manders, who provided a late cameo of 29 runs off just 20 deliveries. Manders’ aggressive knock featured two boundaries and a towering six, but his departure signaled the end of any realistic hope for a comeback.

Tata Steel were eventually bundled out for 110, falling well short of the target.
