Somerset Trojans 1 Boulevard Blazers 0
Somerset Trojans Under-23s got their campaign off to a winning start at Bernard Park, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Boulevard Blazers.
In what was a classic opening-day encounter defined by defensive discipline and high energy, both sides struggled to find a clinical edge during a goalless first period. The Boulevard Blazers proved difficult to break down, frustrating a Somerset side that enjoyed the lions' share of possession but lacked the final ball to test the keeper.
The deadlock was finally broken just two minutes into the second half. Following a quick transitional move, Kimani McNeil found himself in space to fire home in the 47th minute. It was a goal that combined sharp movement with a cool finish, giving the Trojans the lead they had been searching for.
Despite late pressure from the Blazers as they pushed for an equalizer, the Somerset backline remained resolute. The Trojans managed the final stages of the match with veteran-like composure to ensure McNeil’s strike was enough to bag all three points.
The result brings a close to the first week of the Under-23 season, with Somerset immediately establishing themselves in the upper echelons of the early standings.
For the Blazers, there will be plenty of positives to take from a resilient defensive display, but they will head back to the training ground looking to sharpen an attack that remained largely subdued throughout the ninety minutes. Somerset, meanwhile, move into week two with the momentum of a clean sheet and a vital away win.
