Kimberley Brush aside Tomlinson & Papplewick and Linby

Kimberley Institute CC claimed a dominant six-wicket victory over Zeri Tomlinson and his Papplewick and Linby CC teammates in the Nottinghamshire Premier League, spearheaded by a standout all-round performance from Harry Burnhill.

On a day where bats struggled against the ball, Papplewick’s decision to bat first backfired spectacularly as they were skittled for just 87 runs. Kimberley chased down the modest target with ease, reaching 88-4 to secure the points.

After winning the toss, Papplewick and Linby hoped to set a competitive total, but they never found their rhythm. The Kimberley bowling attack, led by a relentless Harry Burnhill, tore through the top and middle order.

Burnhill was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 4-30 from his 8.2 overs. Papplewick’s resistance was thin; Finley Moran provided the highest contribution with a gritty 14, while Zeri Tomlinson chipped in with 12. However, the lack of meaningful partnerships meant the visitors were bowled out in under 30 overs.

The chase was far from a foregone conclusion early on, as Papplewick’s Freddie McCann delivered a masterclass in economical bowling. McCann’s remarkable spell of 2-11 from 10 overs, including six maidens, kept the pressure high and forced Kimberley to work for every run.

Despite the tight bowling, Kimberley remained composed. Fittingly, it was Harry Burnhill who anchored the innings, transitioning from wicket-taker to run-getter. His top score of 35 proved decisive, guiding his side toward the target.

Kimberley eventually crossed the finish line four wickets down, sealing a comprehensive win that sees them climb the Premier League standings, while Papplewick and Linby are left to rue a difficult day at the crease.
