Rain Dampens Jeffers & Bristol West Indian Opener

Bristol Pakistanis CC 208 Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 0/0

A dominant bowling display from Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC was left unrewarded this weekend as the British weather played the decisive role in their West of England Premier Cricket League (WEPL) clash against Bristol Pakistanis CC.

In a match that promised a thrilling finish in the Bristol & North Somerset division, the heavens opened at the worst possible moment for the Phoenix, forcing an abandonment before a single ball of their run chase could be bowled.

After winning the toss and electing to field, the Phoenix attack looked disciplined from the start. Bermudian international Cameron Jeffers played a key role in containing the middle order, showing his trademark control to finish a full ten-over spell with figures of 1-45.

While Jeffers provided the stability, it was Rushabh Yadav who did the damage at the other end. Yadav was in devastating form, tearing through the Bristol Pakistanis’ lineup to claim a magnificent five-wicket haul, finishing with 5-38 from his ten overs. Despite a resilient 56 from Shahwaiz Hassan, the visitors were eventually bundled out for 208.

However, just as Jeffers and his teammates were preparing to begin what looked like a manageable pursuit of 209, the afternoon sunshine vanished. A heavy downpour quickly saturated the ground, leaving the umpires with little choice but to call time on the proceedings.

While the Phoenix will be frustrated to miss out on a potential victory, they will take immense confidence from their efficiency in the field. Jeffers and his side now look ahead to next weekend, hoping for a clearer forecast and a chance to let their batsmen make their mark on the new campaign.
