Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 239 Wembdon CC 220
The cricketing summer has begun in earnest for Cameron Jeffers, as his Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC side claimed a hard-fought 19-run victory over Wembdon CC in an entertaining pre-season friendly.
Winning the toss and opting to set a target, Bristol West Indian Phoenix navigated their way to a formidable total of 239. The innings was anchored by an aggressive knock from Rushabh Yadav, who spearheaded the scoring with a well-timed 57. While Jeffers was unable to add to the tally, finishing his time at the crease not out without scoring, his side’s middle order provided enough resistance to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Wembdon’s Syed Munir Hussain was the standout performer with the ball, providing a persistent threat and returning disciplined figures of two wickets for 15 runs across his three-over spell.
The chase from Wembdon was defined by the brilliance of Brahm Singh, whose 76 kept the visitors within touching distance of an upset. However, Bristol West Indian Phoenix found their hero in Yadav, who followed up his batting exploits with a devastating performance with the ball. He dismantled the Wembdon lower order to finish with a five-wicket haul, returning figures of 5 for 50 from his ten overs.
Jeffers played a crucial supporting role in the field and with the ball to ensure the victory. Across his four overs, the Bermudian claimed one wicket for 34 runs and proved his reliability in the deep by safely holding onto two catches as Wembdon were eventually bowled out for 220.
The victory provides an ideal platform for Jeffers and his teammates as they look to build momentum ahead of the official league campaign.
