Maxwell Curtis and Wesley Tucker laid down a marker for the 2026 Comet Class season with a flawless performance to claim the Allen Frith Memorial Regatta title in St. George’s Harbour.
The opening event of the campaign, hosted by the East End Mini Yacht Club, saw the duo dominate from start to finish. In a masterclass of tactical sailing and boat speed, Curtis and Tucker secured victory in all four races held throughout the day. Under the scoring system which allows for the discarding of a worst result, they finished with a near-perfect tally of three points to sit comfortably atop the leaderboard.
While the winners were in a league of their own, the battle for the remaining podium spots remained remarkably consistent across the four-race series. Alan Frith and Clodagh Somers proved to be the "best of the rest," mirroring the leaders' consistency by finishing second in every race of the afternoon to secure the runner-up spot overall.
The battle for third place was largely contested by Gregory Wade and Geno Smith. The pair showed strong form in the opening skirmishes, crossing the line in third position on three separate occasions to ensure they rounded out the top three in the final standings.
The regatta provided a spectacular start to the sailing season, with the pristine conditions in the east end offering a stern test for the fleet. With Curtis and Tucker already showing the rest of the field a clean pair of heels, the chasing pack will be looking to bridge the gap as the Comet Class season continues in the coming weeks.
