Voting has officially opened for the Cardiff City Player of the Season award, with Bermudian goalkeeper Nathan Trott among the six-man shortlist after a record-breaking debut campaign in South Wales.
The 27-year-old made an immediate impact following his arrival, becoming the first goalkeeper in the club's history to record five consecutive clean sheets in his first five appearances. Those shutouts against Port Vale, Rotherham United, AFC Wimbledon, Luton Town, and Plymouth Argyle back in August set the foundation for a highly successful season under manager Brian Barry-Murphy. Trott has since extended that tally to 14 clean sheets in total, combining incredible reflex saves against Barnsley and Northampton with a modern, composed style of play that has become central to City’s tactical identity. Supporters have until the club's annual awards evening on Saturday, April 25th, to cast the votes that will determine the winner.
The afternoon was also a significant one for Nahki Wells and Luton Town, as they secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Peterborough United at Kenilworth Road. The fixture was played under a somber atmosphere, with both sets of players wearing black armbands in a moving tribute to Tony Godden. The former goalkeeper, who represented both the Hatters and Posh with distinction, passed away this week at the age of 70. On the pitch, the win provides a vital boost for Wells’ side as they continue to jostle for position in the upper reaches of the table.
Further down the pyramid, it was a day of mixed fortunes for Bermuda’s overseas contingent. In the National League North, there was late heartbreak for Justin Donawa and Keziah Martin as Hereford conceded a stoppage-time winner to fall 1-0 against Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough. In the Southern League Premier Central, Reggie Lambe enjoyed a more productive afternoon, helping Needham Market edge past Bromsgrove Sporting with a clinical 1-0 win at Bloomfields.
Elsewhere, Kane Crichlow was involved in a dominant display as Chelmsford City picked up a commanding 3-0 victory over Enfield Town at the Dunmow Group Community Stadium. Milan Butterfield also tasted success, with his Halesowen Town side pulling off a strong 3-1 win against Stamford. However, the results were less favorable for Willie Clemons, whose Leiston side suffered a 4-1 defeat at Redditch United, and Ajani Burchall, who saw his Wimborne Town teammates fall to a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Farnham Town.
