Bermudian international Nia Christopher saw her official debut for FH Hafnarfjörður Women cut short on Thursday as extreme weather forced the abandonment of the Iceland Super Cup Final.
In what was meant to be a landmark afternoon for the former Fort Lauderdale United forward, the clash against Breiðablik Women lasted just ten minutes before the referee was forced to intervene.
The match, held in Kópavogur, began under a blanket of heavy snow and biting winds. Despite attempts to play through the flurry, the conditions rapidly deteriorated, making visibility and ball movement nearly impossible.
Footage shared on social media captured the severity of the blizzard, with players seen huddling for warmth on the benches and technical staff struggling to clear the lines before the official decision was made to halt proceedings.
For Christopher, the abandonment is a frustrating delay to her professional journey in Iceland. Since moving to Hafnarfjörður from the USL Super League in February, the 24-year-old has been in scintillating pre-season form, netting several goals and quickly establishing herself as the "tenacious" forward head coach Davíð Þór Viðarsson had been searching for.
The Towson University standout arrived in Iceland looking for regular first-team football after a rotational role in South Florida, and she had been tipped to lead the line in today's hunt for silverware.
For now, Christopher and her teammates must wait for the thaw. While her official debut may have been frozen out today, officials are hoping to have the match played tomorrow.
