Bermuda Juniors Golfers Compete in Puerto Rico

IslandStats.com
Darina Betschart holds a commanding position at the Puerto Rico Junior Island Championships after a resilient display of golf at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.

The young Bermudian leads the Girls 15 and Under division following two testing rounds in Rio Grande. Betschart showed significant improvement as the tournament progressed, overcoming a challenging opening round of 83 to fire a much-improved seven-over par 79 on day two. Her second round was highlighted by a steadying birdie and consistent play that helped her weather a difficult triple bogey, leaving her at 18-over par overall and at the head of the field heading into the final stages.

In the Boys International Division, Oliver Betschart finds himself firmly in the mix after a rollercoaster opening 36 holes. He started the tournament in sensational form, carding a brilliant one-under par 71 that featured four birdies and 11 pars. Although he found the going tougher in his second round with a six-over par 78, he remains tied for eighth place at five-over par. His ability to scramble for pars during a demanding second session has kept him within striking distance of the leaders.

Meanwhile, Arman Newton sits in 32nd place in the same division after battling through two rounds of high-pressure collegiate-style competition. Newton showed flashes of high-quality play in his opening round of 79, which included an impressive 12 pars, but found consistency harder to come by during a second-round 84. Despite the setbacks, his combined score of 19-over par keeps him in the heart of the international field.

With the championship presented by National Lumber and Hardware reaching its climax, all three Bermudians remain focused on navigating the challenging layout of the Grand Reserve. For Darina Betschart, the goal is now to protect her lead, while Oliver Betschart will be looking to rediscover the sub-par form that ignited his tournament on day one.
