Canada Legends edge out Manders & Rest of the World

IslandStats.com
Canada 238/5 Rest of the World 213/4

Canada won by 25 Runs

Andre Manders produced a standout all-round performance, but it was not enough to prevent the Rest of the World XI from falling to a 25-run defeat against the Canada Legends in the Over 60 International Quad Series.

On a high-scoring afternoon at the Severn Cricket Field in Woodley Park, California, the Rest of the World won the toss and elected to field. However, the decision allowed Canada to showcase their batting depth as they posted a formidable total of 238 for five from their 45 overs.

Kenny Ghirdarry was the architect of the Canadian innings, falling just short of a century with a commanding 93. Despite the onslaught, Manders remained the most effective weapon in the Rest of the World’s bowling arsenal. The Bermudian veteran delivered a disciplined nine-over spell, including one maiden, to return figures of two for 42—comfortably the pick of the bowlers.

The chase began with promise, and the Rest of the World appeared to be in a strong position following a century partnership for the third wicket. Manders and Greg Caracciolo —playing as teammates in the international select side—shared a resilient 111-run stand that looked set to guide their team home. Manders was particularly effective, striking five boundaries in a composed 53 from 71 deliveries.

However, the momentum shifted significantly when Ghirdarry was forced to retire hurt on 60. His departure left the Rest of the World with a mountain to climb, and despite Manders' anchor role, the international side finished their 45 overs on 213 for four.

Canada’s Rohit Roy proved to be the difference with the ball, maintaining relentless pressure to finish with figures of two for 24 from his six overs. The result leaves the Rest of the World looking to regroup ahead of their final round-robin fixtures, while Canada solidifies their standing as the team to beat in Los Angeles.
